For fun, now you have to know this is for fun…HA! Just for my enjoyment, my relaxation, my breath away from the daily paintings I create, to give me greater freedom to create and further inspiration….and I used to do this stuff, but can’t remember how I did it so I am taking a class in printmaking at Valencia College. Easy???? No way. This class is time consuming, technical, and requires extreme patience and diligence. So, where does that attention span of a gnat come in????
Well, that is what I have. It has always been so, and it is a self proclaimed and factual statement that describes ME. Yes, ME. That that does not stand for medical examiner! It stands for me, Ronda Richley.
So I have begun a new creative journey, or taken up an old one once again. I am creating collagraphs. A collagraph is simply (yep another misnomer) a print pulled from a printing plate made from collage materials. It is created on an etching press. Okay. Easy. Make a collage. Seal it. Ink it, and Pull it. Then…yep…then…make six identical prints. Yep. Like that is going to happen.
I am a process artist. It is all about doing it. Making it. Creating it. and then Changing it.
I have the attention span of a gnat. I am good for a couple of seconds (maybe minutes) of satisfaction, then I just must do something else. Change something. Anything!!!! This has always worked to my advantage in painting and ceramics, as I work very fast and then move onto the next thing, making me very prolific.
So the art above is NOT part o the edition of 6 I am creating (I got through 4 of them before I got bored and started changing it) but is a monoprint, where I took the plate, inked it by rubbing ink onto and into it with my fingers and then took the butt end of a brush and drew on top of it.
We shall have to see where this all goes, but for certain, I am still a painter and a ceramicist, but now maybe a printmaker too!
Later, my friends!
