I just returned from an art adventure in the South of France that was called “After Van Gogh” and was an art retreat by The ArtisTTable. It was a Plein Air event where you are supposed to paint outside, on location, and small…very small. Well, I had some difficulties painting in the wind, small (OMG I work quite large and this was small) and everything was blowing away as well as it was cold for this Florida girl.
However, I did quite a few studies or sketches of scenes I would want to paint later. So in this post, I am showing you my sketch (5″x 8″) and the painting I created in my studio based on the tiny sketch.
The painting is 30″ x 40″ and actually is not a painting, really. It is acrylic paint blocked into basic colors in the background with these wonderfully soft oil pastels worked over the surface, nearly hiding the original paint.
And…now I decided to help you find the figures in the trees as they are very much obscured. And of course, most of you are aware that the figures in my trees is my brand, my look, my way of communicating relationships and life with you.
Below in the red lines are some of the figures, but you can find the rest!
But now here is my question…I really like the sketch. In fact I like it as much as I like the painting! So, this gives me an idea…should I use the sketch and create etchings or engravings as well? Should I create a work punched and engraved into copper? What do you think?
